Commit to being Consistent

If someone asked you if you were a consistent person, would your answer be yes, or no?

More importantly, if you asked yourself this question, would your answer be consistent with the answer you gave someone else?

Why is it that we can be consistent when it comes to brushing our teeth, taking a shower, and checking our cell phone, but when it involves being consistent with things that can improve our lives or others we are not as consistent as we should be.

Just imagine what you could accomplish if you were a consistent person all the time, instead of some of the time.

Let’s play “What if” by answering the following questions:

  • What if I consistently pursued my passion?
  • What if I consistently exercised on a weekly basis?
  • What if I consistently focused and worked on achieving my goal?

Now make this specific for yourself and fill in the blank:

  • What if I consistently _________________________________?

How much better would your life be if you were consistent with what you filled in the blank? Being consistent gives you a sense of accomplishment and motivates you to continue. When you are inconsistent or sporadic, the feeling of regret or guilt surfaces. This can sometimes make you feel stuck or want to give up.

When I made the decision to have a healthy lifestyle, I had to change my mindset and make a choice to consistently exercise three days a week. Not two days a week and not one day a week. I knew this was not going to be easy with my busy schedule. For me to be consistent and achieve this goal, I scheduled my time to exercise in my calendar like I did meetings for work and my hair appointments.

I always attended meetings and hair appointments consistently because they were in my calendar. Each day when I completed my exercise, I felt productive and knew I would achieve my goal to have a healthy lifestyle.
I have been exercising for 14 years and it is like brushing my teeth. Achieving this goal allowed me to be consistent in other areas of my life. I can honestly say I am a consistent person.

Coach Yourself:

  • What is one thing you are struggling with being consistent?
  • What adjustment do you need to make to be consistent?
